Men’s Fashion Tips 2012: Choosing the Right Shoes

Some men consider shoes to be purely a practical item, while others seem to have an unhealthy obsession with them; from that point of view men aren’t much different to women.
Shoes are actually more difficult to choose than we think, but here are some style tips which will allow you to begin choosing the right shoes to suit outfit and occasion.
Jeans
Luckily for men there is pretty much an ‘anything goes’ rule when it comes to jeans. Jeans work great with shoes, boots, sandals, loafers and trainers, so how do you choose?
The best rule for jeans is to make what you are wearing on your feet, match the style of your top.
If you have a sports top on match it with some trainers; a shirt, match it with some shoes (but avoid really shiny shoes); if you are wearing a nice tee, stick it with some cool plimsolls or boots and if you are going for a really casual look put some sandals on with them.
One thing to be careful with is the cut of the jeans; a boot cut jean might make your feet look a little small if wearing a pair of sandals so be sure to take this into consideration.
Chinos or Casual Trousers
These are some of the most difficult trousers to match with shoes but again let the occasion guide your choice.
If you are going into a more formal situation look to pick a shoe like a pair of loafers or a more casual shoe. If you are in a casual situation a pair of slip-ons will look cool, some even dare to pull off the high sided casual boot or trainer.
Dress/Suit Trousers
Probably one of the easier choices as we all know trainers don’t mix with these types of trousers, unless you’re from LA and defining fashion!
The general rule of thumb in this situation is that the shinier the shoe, the dressier it becomes; as does avoiding shoes with big soles and heels. Laces are also making a comeback and tend to indicate a more formal shoe.
Another thing to be conscious of is that your shoes should be darker than or equal to your trousers in colour and look best if matched to your belt.
Whichever shoe you choose just be conscious of the situation and occasion you require them for and in general to match them to your upper body as much as your do your lower.
