Kobi Levi’s Disparate Shoe Designs

Not many people know who Kobi Levi is, but his shoes are as recognisable as Christian Louboutin’s style. Levi is the Israeli shoe designer who shot to fame after designing the boots that Lady Gaga wore in her “Born This Way” video. Levi designs shoes around mishaps like spilled coffee or stepping gum. His shoes are wearable and completely out of the ordinary it’s impossible not to take notice of them.

The 36-year old received an email saying that Lady Gaga was looking for a designer to submit shoe designs based on a “Metamorphosis” theme for her upcoming music video. Levi jumped at the opportunity and ended up being the chosen one to dress Gaga’s feet.
Based in Israel, the eclectic and highly creative footwear designer makes all his ‘out there’ shoes by hand and considering how popular his shoes are becoming he may need to look to hiring seriously skilled hands at getting the products made.
Kobi Levi Shoe Designs
Kobi’s shoe designs are completely out there. With designs based on kittens stretching, chopsticks and dragons and one particular shoe
design that deviates from even disparate shoe designs is based on Madonna’s “Blonde Ambition” tour. The footwear is gold and features Madonna’s famous headpiece and mouthpiece that she used throughout her tours.
Some of Levi’s designs may be too crazy to wear but it’s easy to understand why people would just want to own them. This writer would love to own the ‘Banana Peel’ shoe, which looks exactly like a peeled banana. The striking yellow contrast against the ice white inner is just so shocking and lovely to look at. Kobi Levi is a master when it comes to designing incomparable shoes.
Inspiration
Kobi finds most of his inspiration in the Far East often travelling to China and the Guangzhou Province, which
Levi describes as a melting pot of inspiration. It seems that people in the East really like his shoes and are often looking to buy Kobi Levi shoes, but struggle to find them. This is one of the reasons why Levi is making a point of having his shoes manufactured because making them by hand can get somewhat painful.
Levi goes on to explain that he finds the Eastern culture most fascinating and the fact that they’re more open to different ideas on every plain makes it easier for designers to experiment. This is an eclectic culture that naturally promotes inspiration and Kobi revels in that.

Vida Denning is a freelance writer the loves shoes. She has nowhere near enough shoes to warrant a contract with footwear hanger merchants, but Lady Gaga probably does and Vida envies her.
